Biography:

Born in 1972 in Malaysia, Professor Doctor Chong is of Hakka descent. He completed his primary education at a Chinese school (Elementary School SJK(C) Ma Hwa). After graduating from secondary and high school at Chung Hua High School, Seremban, he pursued studies in Japan in April 1992.


Educational Background. :

  • 1992–1994: Completed Japanese language studies at Nara Japanese Language Academy (achieved Level 1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test).
  • 1994–1998: Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Tezukayama University (Bachelor’s degree in Economics).
  • 1998–2000: Enrolled in the Master's program at Osaka University, Graduate School of Economics (Master’s degree obtained in 2000).
  • 2000–2004: Doctoral studies at Osaka University, Graduate School of Economics (PhD awarded in 2007).
 He specializes in economics, particularly international economics and environmental economics. In addition to presenting and publishing academic papers both in Japan and overseas, he has been frequently invited to give public lectures and appear on radio and television, including in his native Malaysia. He also writes regular columns for the Sin Chew Daily, a Chinese-language newspaper with the highest circulation not only in Malaysia but also in Southeast Asia. He has written and published many academic papers in his field of research. He has also written and published academic papers related to sports and economics.

 In April 2004, he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Policy Management at Shobi University, Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008, where he also served as a primary supervisor for graduate students. In 2023, he was promoted to Full Professor. Additionally, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Rissho University for many years. He has authored numerous research papers on economics, published both domestically and internationally.

 《芙蓉花开时》 （简体字） （第16届花踪文学奖入围作品：报告文学奖） （一）男的优先 那是70年前的事情。我妈妈长大的地方，在森美兰州一个穷乡僻壤的小村。 那时我妈妈还是小学生，马来西亚也还没有独立。 不像现在的小学，当时妈妈上的小学还有晚班。听妈妈说，上晚班的话，可以减轻很多经济上的负担。当时家里实在是非常非常的穷，外公无法负担儿女们的教育费，只能够委屈妈妈去上晚上的小学班。 妈妈小时候非常优秀，好学不倦，虽然上的是晚班，但还是年年考第一。曾经是村里最优秀的学生（当时是森美兰州瓜拉庇朥武吉古鲁莪（Bukit Gelugor）公立新村学校），村里的人都知道她是才女。所谓的年年考第一，那真是每一年都考第一名的，妈妈现在手上还有当时学校颁发给她的奖牌。那个奖牌，我小的时候妈妈就拿出来给我看过，看似镀金的，至今还在。奖牌上刻了十四个字： 「好学不倦， 公立新村学校奖， 方彦金」 （参阅图一）。 经考究，「方彦金」应该是当时颁发奖牌给妈妈的校长。 当所有人都认为妈妈的天资聪明，以及有好学不倦的精神，今后定会前途无量，可以光宗耀祖的时候，妈妈在校园里的学习生涯，随着那一个奖牌，就此落幕了。 当年妈妈的家里很穷，再加上当时的社会风气，和重男轻女的传统思想，相对现在还是非常重的。外公挥泪忍痛让妈妈停学，把仅有的钱，留给了我妈妈的弟弟（我的亲舅舅）读书用。 之后，妈妈为了帮助家里维持生计，去到当时在马来西亚驻军的英国士兵家里做女佣。我小时候就常常感到不可思议，只上过小学的妈妈，为何会说英语，而且不是普通的发音，就像电视里老外说的地道发音。后来听妈妈说，才知道她在英国人家里当过很多年女佣。 妈妈现在已经老了，可是她还记得当时学过的英语单词，有时还表演给我听。 妈妈后来虽然很遗憾的没有机会继续升学读书，但是我想，妈妈把她最好的读书天资的基因，遗传给了我。并且还把她注重读书的思想，从小就灌输给了我。这让我想起了，同样注重儿女教育的孟子的母亲孟母，岳飞的母亲姚氏，还有苏东坡的母亲程氏等等。 话说回来，外公其实也是一位很注重教育的人，只可惜当时因为家里太穷。外公挖尽心思，把家里的米缸底，刮了又刮，养活一家，同时也不忘为孩子将来的读书，省这省那，一点一点的攒钱。可惜，米缸底再刮，吃完还能省下的，只能算是沧海一粟。 妈妈在如此环境下，深明大义，无奈停学后，也理解外公的选择，自己出去打...
